Are you someone who can't resist picking up that Twix bar at the grocery checkout? Is Willy Wonka your spirit animal? Do you find yourself frequently checking your watch, wondering when they’re going to cut little Timmy’s chocolate birthday cake? After eating a Dove dark chocolate, do you feel like you’ve instantly been transported to a chocolate oasis? When a friend asks if you want to share a brownie a la mode, do you say yes because you don’t want to be judged but deep inside, you actually want two orders just for yourself? If you’ve answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, you might be a chocoholic.
As a fellow chocoholic, I’ve got you. This is a delicious recipe that meets the needs of your addiction, while sneaking some healthy fruit, greens and veggies in.
Notes & Substitutions:
Equipment: Blender
Bananas: I know bananas are a popular substitution in vegan smoothies, baking, etc. but I am allergic. Oddly, I developed an allergy to bananas about 8 or so years ago. If you love bananas, go ahead and throw them on into the mix.
Ingredients: See ‘A Pinch, A Dash & A Smidge’ for measuring references.
Cocoa Powder
1 Avocado (rough chop)
A Handful of Kale (cleaned, woody stems removed & roughly chopped)
A Handful of Dates (pitted)
1 Zucchini (cleaned, stem removed & roughly chopped)
A Handful of Spinach (cleaned, woody stems removed & roughly chopped)
About ½ a Mug of Dairy-Free Milk (I made mine with… You guessed it, JOI Nut Base!)
A dollop of JOI Cashew Nut Base
A tad of Chia Seeds soaked in water
1-2 Handfuls of Raw Walnuts
Instructions:
Add all items to blender.
Blend until smooth.
Enjoy cold as a smoothie or smoothie bowl.
